Filmmaker’s Profile
Mikhail Redwas born in December 1991. He is one of the youngest independent filmmakers in the Philippines today. His first short film, The Threshold got him into an international film festival at the age of fifteen. A year later, he wrote and directed his second short film, Kamera, which was shown in festivals in New York, Chicago, South Korea, Germany, Canada and at the 10th Cinemanila International Film Festival. Kamera won 1st Prize for the short narrative category at the 20th Gawad CCP for alternative film and video, while his earlier short, The Threshold, won the 1st Prize for the experimental category. His third short film, Juan Henerasyon, received five awards including best picture at a local film competition held by the Ateneo de Manila University. His fourth short film, Harang, was officially selected by the 11th Cinemanila International Film Festival, 34th Hong Kong International Film Festival, and The Chicago Filipino American Film Festival. Harang also won Best Screenplay at the 6th Cinemalaya Film Festival and the Grand Prize at the 12th Seoul International Youth Film Festival. His latest film, Hazard, won the Jury Prize at the 12th Cinemanila International Film Festival. Mikhail Red is also the editor, writer, cinematographer, and producer of his short films. He is the son of Palme D'or award winning filmmaker Raymond Red.
