IMMANUEL

BY GABRIEL “GIO” PUYAT

Synopsis:

Immanuel is set in speculative Philippines where air pollution has reached irreparable proportions.  Air pollution has rendered breathable oxygen scarce.  This makes it the main resource around which society revolves.  The film follows to protagonists:  Leo Sagaysay, a young father and husband who works at the Oxygen Factory, and his wife Rubi.  Together they have a son, whom they struggle to support.  The appearance of an ex-factory worker at their door sets off a chain of events that leads to the downfall of the Sagaysay family.

Filmmaker’s Profile

Gio Puyat started making videos for school projects back in high school, constantly tinkering with the camcorder and computer to come up with films that would try to ignite some classroom fun. His infatuation with the visual arts was cultivated much further when he took up AB Communications in Ateneo de Manila University. From shooting with mini-DV camcorders guerilla style along Katipunan avenue, to creating crazy viral videos just to be posted on Youtube, Gio joined forces with his friends and fellow batchmates in production to make any worthy creative concept a visual reality. During his stay in college, Gio found mentors, teachers, and people to learn and look up to in the film industry. Experience both in and out of the classroom eventually led him to work alongside his thesis mates and successfully create one of the very few modern sci-fi films in the country.

Gio is just recently graduated from Ateneo de Manila University and is currently working with Manila Man Productions as a freelance director and editor.
