FRIDAY, August 11, at the 13th Cinemalaya Film Festival heightens up the competition with the screening of seven full-length entries and a set of short features for the Main Competition section.
Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater) presents four full-lengths and one set of short features. "Bagahe (The Baggage)" opens the screening in the Main Theater at 10a.m., followed by "Kiko Boksingero" by Thop Nazareno at 12:45p.m., "Requited" by Nerissa Picadizo at 3:30p.m., and "Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha (The Family That Doesn't Weep)" at 9p.m.
Two full-length entries - "Nabubulok (The Decaying)" by Sonny Calvento and "Ang Guro Kong Di Marunong Magbasa (My Teacher Who Doesn't Know How To Read)" by Perry Escaño - will be screened at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater) at 10a.m. and 12:45p.m., respectively. Meanwhile, Tanghalang Huseng Batute hosts two other full-length entries - "Sa Gabing Nanahimik Ang Mga Kuliglig (Clouds of Plague)" by Iar Arondaing at 6:15p.m., and "Kiko Boksingero" by Thop Nazareno at 9p.m.
Shorts A, composed of "Fatima Marie Torres and the Invasion of Space Shuttle Pinas 25" by Carlo Francisco Manatad, "Sorry For The Inconvenience" by Carl Adrian Chavez, "Lola Loleng" by Jean Cheryl Tagyamon, "Aliens Ata" by Glenn Barit, "Islabodan" by Juan Carlo Tarobal, and "Manong ng Pa-Aling" by E del Mundo, will be screened at 10a.m. at Tanghalang Huseng Batute, and at 6:15p.m., at the Main Theater.
Visions of Asia features "Turah" by Wicaksono Winsu Legewo, "A Gift" by Chayanop Boonprakob, Kriangkrai Vachiratamporn, Nithiwat Tharatorn and Jira Maligool, and "The Painter's View" by Kim Hee-chul.
Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino offers "Turah," a film on the life of the Kampung Tirang residents who live in dilapidated shacks and earn just enough for their next meal, at 3:30p.m.; and "A Gift," which presents the parallel stories of six people who are trying to overcome life’s challenges, at 6:15p.m. “A Gift” honors the King of Thailand’s musical compositions highlighting his songs within a cinematic symphony of romance, soul-searching drama and heartwarming humor. "The Painter's View," a film that depicts the struggles of a painter, will be shown at 3:30p.m., at Tanghalang Huseng Batute.
Best of Festivals screens Shanghai International Film Festival's "Pauwi Na" by Paolo Villaluna at 9p.m., at the Little Theater. The Program 2 of Animahenasyon will be at 12:45p.m., at the Studio Theater.
There will be a back-to-back tribute screenings for director Gil Portes and actress Lolita Rodriguez at Tanghalang Manuel Conde, starting with 'Mga Munting Tinig" at 3:30p.m., followed by Lino Brocka's "Stardoom" at 6:15p.m., and "Two Funerals" at 9p.m.
