Cinemalaya Opening Night last July 9

The Cinemalaya Opening Night kicked off to a grand start. The Silly People's Improv Theater (S.P.I.T.), led by Gabe Mercado, enthused the audience during the opening ceremonies with the first ever Cinemalaya Auction, a raffle draw, and their interactive games. The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by PPO's Music Director Olivier Ochanine, performed live music for the evening as Ballet Philippines (BP) performed an excerpt from A Vision of Fire. Ambassador Isabel Caro Wilson welcomed the audience to the opening night, and the audience was then treated to a preview of all the shows being presented during the Cinemalaya Festival. Cinemalaya president Nestor O. Jardin and Competition Director Laurice Guillen also gave short speeches about Cinemalaya and the short and full-length films competing this year. Cinemalaya 2010's opening film was Ganap na Babae, directed by Rica Arevalo, Ellen Ramos and Sarah Roxas.
