SYNOPSIS
Set in a barangay near a shoal, two brothers cope with the aftermath of a traumatic event that shook their community. In their own ways, they seek solace and comfort amidst the chaos. While the older brother struggles with his emotions, the younger finds unexpected relief in eating sorbetes.

FILMMAKER’S PROFILE
A Metro Manila-based filmmaker, editor, and video guy whose passion for the craft began at the young age of 15. Jennissie Gilbuena is dedicated to telling stories that amplify overlooked, silenced, and marginalized voices.

Gilbuena won the second Best Short Film award at the 2024 MMFF x FDCP Student Short Film Competition for A Delivery Driver at the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival.

Sorbetes (2025), on the other hand, was featured in the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ (FDCP) Films For Peace Festival’s official selection. He is also one of the writers behind the short film No Mad is An Island, an official entry for the 2026 Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
When I was a kid, sorbetes was a way my family comforted me. Growing up in a community near a shoal where typhoons often threatened us, I learned to find solace in small moments during times of chaos. Today, our fishermen face new, grave threats on the sea, threats that go beyond natural disasters. The struggles of our community are now tied to the uncertainty and danger brought by the changing waters.

In this film, I wanted to show how a child’s perspective offers a sense of hope, even in the face of these fears. Through the eyes of a young boy, we witness the simple yet profound way he seeks comfort, like finding peace in an ice cream cone.
